New partnership aims to expand access to scholarships, educational grants, and financial assistance for students impacted by crime and the criminal justice system.

TORONTO, ONTARIO — October 21, 2026

The Harvey Foundation for Justice & Opportunity is pleased to announce a new educational partnership with Seneca Polytechnic, marking an important milestone in the Foundation's commitment to reducing financial barriers to post-secondary education.

Through this partnership, Seneca Polytechnic will feature the Foundation's scholarship, grant, and applicable student support programs on its website, providing students with greater awareness of funding opportunities designed for individuals and families impacted by crime and the criminal justice system.

Expanding Access to Educational Opportunity

For many individuals, the pursuit of post-secondary education is shaped by circumstances extending far beyond the classroom. Experiences involving violence, exploitation, family involvement in the criminal justice system, and financial instability can create significant barriers to educational participation.

The Harvey Foundation for Justice & Opportunity was established to help address these barriers by developing educational funding opportunities that recognize the diverse experiences of students and families.

The partnership with Seneca Polytechnic represents a step toward connecting those opportunities with students through an established post-secondary institution.

How the Partnership Will Work

Under the planned funding arrangement, Seneca Polytechnic will participate in the student selection and award administration process in accordance with the Foundation's program requirements and agreed institutional procedures.

Once recipients have been selected and funding has been approved, the Foundation will transfer the designated award funds to Seneca Polytechnic for distribution to eligible students.

This model is intended to promote responsible funding administration, institutional coordination, and accessibility for students seeking financial assistance.

Scholarships, Grants, and Student Support

The Foundation is developing several funding initiatives, including:

  • The Harvey Education Scholarship: Up to $10,000 for full-time students and $5,000 for part-time students.
  • Resilience & Opportunity Scholarship: Up to $10,000 for full-time students and $5,000 for part-time students.
  • The Harvey Education Grant: Up to $2,500 for approved education-related expenses.
  • Family Opportunity Scholarship: $1,000 for full-time students and $500 for part-time students.
  • Technology Access Grant: Individualized support for essential educational technology, subject to demonstrated need and available resources.
  • Mental Health & Counselling Support Fund: Up to $1,200 per eligible individual, subject to program-specific requirements.

These programs are currently in development, and the Foundation is working to secure the resources necessary to begin accepting applications and distributing financial assistance.

Building Partnerships That Create Opportunity

As a newly incorporated not-for-profit organization, the Foundation recognizes the importance of collaboration with educational institutions to strengthen access to student financial assistance.

The partnership with Seneca Polytechnic reflects the Foundation's broader vision of working alongside post-secondary institutions, community organizations, and supporters to reduce educational barriers and create pathways to long-term opportunity.

The Foundation looks forward to developing additional institutional relationships as its programs and funding capacity grow.
