The Harvey Foundation for Justice & Opportunity is proud to announce that, on Monday, September 21, 2026, it was formally incorporated as a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.
This milestone establishes the Foundation as a legal entity and a formal step forward in its mission to reduce educational barriers for people and families materially affected by involvement with the criminal justice system — including survivors and victims of crime, justice-involved individuals, and the families whose lives and education have been disrupted.
As a federally incorporated not-for-profit, the Foundation's structure and governance framework provide the foundation for its Board of Directors, committees, scholarship and grant programs, and its work toward charitable registration. While the Foundation is not yet a registered charity and cannot issue official charitable donation receipts at this time, incorporation marks the beginning of that process.
Founder and Executive Director Cassandra Harvey said: 'Incorporation gives our mission a permanent home. It allows us to build governance, partnerships and programs on a foundation of accountability — and to begin the work of opening doors to education and opportunity for those whose paths have been interrupted by the justice system.'
The Foundation will continue to share updates as it appoints its leadership, develops its scholarship and grant programs, and advances toward registered charity status. Community members can follow these developments through the Foundation's News & Resources page and newsletter.
