Advancing Mental Health Research and Community Collaboration

The Harvey Foundation for Justice & Opportunity is pleased to announce new partnerships with Mhaven, a Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care initiative, and Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care.

This marks an exciting step forward in the Foundation's commitment to advancing mental health research, strengthening community collaboration, and improving access to meaningful mental health support.

These relationships reflect a shared interest in addressing the complex challenges faced by individuals experiencing mental health concerns, particularly those impacted by trauma, the criminal justice system, and systemic barriers to accessing care.

Strengthening Research and Collaboration

Mental health plays a critical role in an individual's ability to heal, pursue education, maintain stability, and build long-term opportunities.

Through ongoing collaboration with Mhaven, The Harvey Foundation aims to explore opportunities that advance mental health research, encourage knowledge-sharing, and support the development of evidence-informed approaches to mental health care.

Potential areas of collaboration include:

Mental Health Research

Exploring research initiatives that deepen our understanding of mental health challenges, trauma, recovery, and barriers to accessing appropriate care.

Knowledge Exchange

Connecting researchers, mental health professionals, community organizations, and individuals with lived experience to inform meaningful improvements in mental health support.

Community Engagement

Strengthening relationships between research institutions, service providers, and communities experiencing barriers to care.

Survivor-Informed Approaches

Encouraging the meaningful inclusion of lived experience in research, program development, and conversations surrounding mental health services.

Long-Term Collaboration

Identifying opportunities for future initiatives that promote accessible, inclusive, and responsive mental health support.

Recognizing the Connection Between Mental Health and Opportunity

At The Harvey Foundation, we recognize that mental health challenges do not exist in isolation.

For individuals impacted by violence, exploitation, trauma, or involvement with the criminal justice system, accessing appropriate mental health services can be an essential part of rebuilding their lives.

Yet significant barriers remain, including financial limitations, stigma, service accessibility, and gaps in trauma-informed care.

By strengthening relationships with organizations engaged in mental health research and care, the Foundation hopes to contribute to a broader understanding of these challenges and support collaborative efforts toward sustainable solutions.

Looking Ahead

The Harvey Foundation looks forward to exploring opportunities for continued collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and research that recognizes the diverse needs and experiences of individuals and communities.

We believe that meaningful progress requires collaboration across sectors, including mental health professionals, researchers, community organizations, and individuals with lived experience.
